Demo · Tier 1: Green Vale

An idle side-scrolling RPG you can keep in the corner of your screen while you do other things.

Gather, craft, fight, and build up a team of characters in a handcrafted pixel world. Pick a spot, start a task, and let them work. You can switch between characters whenever you like, and the ones you leave behind will keep doing their thing.

This demo includes the first tier of the game, set in the Green Vale region.

What's in the demo

• 20 maps with ladders, jumps, hidden ledges, and optional areas to explore.
• 14 monsters, including rare elite spawns and 3 bosses: Goblin Chief, Rat King, and Mother Slime.
• 24 skills that level up as you use them.
• 12 combat styles. Start with Sword, Shield, Dagger, Bow, Staff, and Wand. Master them to unlock Great Sword, Fists, Katana, Crossbow, Summoning, and Music.
• 9 professions: Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Foraging, Hunting, Farming, Crafting, Cooking, and Alchemy.
• 152 recipes across the Furnace, Anvil, Sawmill, Stove, and Alchemy Table.
• 11 pets. Hatch eggs at the Kennel and feed your pets treats. They'll help you out, and some can even fight alongside you.
• Monster Lore, Slayer bounties, a merchant, farming plots, and waystones for fast travel.
• Multiple characters on one account, all progressing at the same time.
• Quests. The fourteen villagers have things to ask of you, with over a hundred quests that walk you through the game.
• Mana and techniques. Every combat style gets special attacks that fire on their own when they're ready.
• Lighting. Your characters, campfires, lamps and spells light up the area around them.
• Languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, German, French and Russian
• Sound and music
• Portrait mode, joystick and keyboard

Good to know

• The game is 100% offline.
• Your characters only progress while the game is open. There's no penalty for closing it, and you won't lose your progress.

I'm making this game on my own, and it's still a demo, so you'll probably run into a few rough edges. If you find a bug or have feedback, please leave a comment. It helps me a lot.

Inspirations

Two big inspirations for Idlewright are Legends of IdleOn and RuneScape.

From IdleOn, I liked the idea of having a whole account of characters working away in a side-scrolling world. From RuneScape, I liked skills that grow as you use them, different combat styles, smelting and smithing, and working toward level requirements.

You'll probably recognize some of those influences, but the world, names, and content in Idlewright are my own.

A note on AI

I want to be upfront about how I made this game.

I used AI tools to help write a significant portion of the code. I directed that work, put it into the game, and tested it. On the visual side, I used a small number of AI-generated images as references or help when making some of the sprites.

Texts were originally written in my native language and machine-translated. I have revised them several times, but some errors may remain.

The music and the sound effects were generated by code, since I can’t compose or record audio myself. It was that or a silent game. 

The game design, systems, mechanics, maps, balancing, and visual direction are my own, as are the final decisions about what goes into the game.

Right now, I can't afford to hire an artist or composer. If the game earns enough to make that possible, I'd like to put that money back into the project, commission art and music, and replace AI-assisted assets where it makes sense.

I've put a lot of time into building and testing Idlewright, and I wanted to be honest about the tools I used along the way. Thanks for giving it a try.
